First is Herpes Simplex Type 1 or HSV1 and Herpes Simplex Type2 or HSV2. These are also known as oral herpes and genital herpes. Oral herpes can cause cold sores and fever blisters around the mouth and on the face whereas genital herpes causes genital outbreaks.

Oral herpes is transmitted by oral to oral contact and genital herpes is transmitted by sexual contacts such as vaginal sex or anal sex. HSV1 can be spread from the mouth to the genitals through oral sex. The disease is incurable but can be you can prevent yourself to avoid becoming infected, or to prevent spreading HSV to another person.

People more than 50% of US population are suffering from HSV1 and 15.5% people are suffering from HSV2 in US. 1 out of 6 people aged 14-49 have genital herpes. A pregnant lady with genital herpes can infect her unborn baby too. She should go to parental care visits. Sometime this infection can lead to miscarriage or premature birth of the baby. If she has herpes symptoms at delivery, a ‘C-section’ is usually performed.

Many people suffering from herpes have no or very mild symptoms like another pimple or ingrown hair that they ignore. Because of this, many people don’t know that they are suffering from herpes. The virus sometimes infects other parts of the body, including the eyes and brain. Medicines can only help to relieve symptoms and help symptoms resolve a little sooner but cannot cure herpes.
